Personal
A Little More About Me
I’ve never been particularly good at limiting my interests to one thing.
As a kid, I was fascinated by computers and technology. Around 14, my uncle introduced me to investing and financial markets, which opened up another world of things to explore.
Cars became another longstanding interest, particularly the combination of engineering, performance, and technology.
That curiosity has followed me through some fairly different chapters of life.
An Unexpected Path
In my twenties, I studied philosophy, anthropology, and criminology before joining the Canada Border Services Agency.
I spent nearly nine years as a Border Services Officer. It was meaningful work and gave me experiences and perspectives I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.
But my interest in technology and financial markets never really went away.
During those years, I became increasingly interested in Tesla. It brought several of my interests together: automobiles, emerging technology, investing, and the possibility of doing things differently.
Eventually, I decided to leave law enforcement and pursue a different direction.
From Ideas to Businesses
In 2015, I founded Singularity Ventures as a place to explore emerging technologies, business opportunities, and ideas about how the world might evolve.
Today, Sinvent is the public-facing venture-studio and strategic-advisory platform for that work.
A year after starting Singularity Ventures, I founded ReCharged Technologies. ReCharged took me into an entirely new kind of work: assembling teams, developing commercial models, meeting municipal leaders, pursuing partnerships, and bringing physical technology prototypes into existence.
One of the engineers who became involved in ReCharged was someone I’d originally met through our mutual interest in cars at a racetrack. I’ve always enjoyed how unexpectedly different interests and experiences can connect.
The business didn’t ultimately reach the scale I’d envisioned, but the experience fundamentally expanded what I understood about building and commercializing ambitious ideas.
Still Exploring
Financial markets have remained a constant interest throughout much of my adult life.
I’ve spent years developing systematic trading approaches, researching market behaviour, and building tools to test ideas that are difficult to evaluate through observation alone.
More recently, AI-assisted development has opened another chapter. I’ve been building software applications, research systems, websites, and creative projects—including children’s books.
What I enjoy most is being able to move between imagining something and figuring out how to make it work.
Outside of Work
I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring nature, swimming, and getting out with my dog Chewy.
I’ve always loved cars and the experience of driving them, particularly on a racetrack. These days, my interest is primarily in electric cars.
Meditation and breathwork have both been influential in my life for more than a decade.
I have a wide range of interests, and I like discovering where they lead. Some have turned into businesses, some into projects, and others have simply made life more interesting.
I think that’s part of what keeps me curious about whatever comes next.
